A pedestrian has died in a hit-and-run in Nottingham.

A man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a car on the A611 Hucknall Road in Carrington on Wednesday night, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The driver failed to stop after the crash, the force added.

Three men, aged 21, 23 and 27, have since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The force said just before 11:00 GMT on Thursday that the road remained closed in both directions between Claremont Street and Alexandra Street as investigation work continued.

Sgt Mark Baker said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends following this tragic incident.

"This will have no doubt been incredibly distressing news for them to receive, so we are deploying specialist trained officers to offer them support at this difficult time.

"We are in the process of exploring several lines of inquiry, so would ask anyone who has information about what happened to come forward immediately."

Nottingham City Transport said the Brown 15, 16 and 17 buses were diverting via Haydn Road and Sherwood Rise in both directions during the road closure.
