Driver dies after car crashes into house

A man has died in hospital after the car he was driving left the road and crashed into a house.

Emergency services were called to Ellacombe Road in Longwell Green, South Gloucestershire, shortly after 13:30 GMT on Wednesday.

Avon and Somerset Police said people stopped to help and paramedics treated the man, but he died after being taken to hospital.

The man is believed to be aged in his 80s but has not been formally identified, police added.

He had been driving a grey Honda Civic, which was the only vehicle involved in the incident. He did not have any passengers with him in the car.

Ellacombe Road was closed to allow for investigation work and recovery of the car, but reopened at about 17:00 GMT.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash.
