Residents in an area of Surrey were told to stay in their homes due to a "chlorine cloud".
The incident in the village of Oxshott was caused by the mixture of two ingredients used for swimming pools, Surrey Fire & Rescue Service said.
Fire crews were called to Steels Lane at 12:11 BST but later confirmed the cloud had cleared by 15:42.
"The chemicals have now been contained. Residents can now reopen windows and doors as usual as there is no longer a risk to them," a spokesperson said.
Crews may still be in the area for the rest of the day, the fire service added.
