Guernsey's Christmas parade and lights switch-on will take place on 30 November, organisers have announced.

Festivities will begin at 15:40 GMT at the Model Yacht Pond in St Peter Port, with the parade finishing at the Market Square at 16:45, when the lights will be switched on.

The event marks the start of late-night shopping season in Guernsey, with businesses opening later on 5, 12, 19 and 22 December.

Jax Robin, from the St Peter Port Christmas Lights group, said the Christmas lights switch-on was a joyous occasion for the island.

"The light switch-on marks the beginning of Christmas for us and is the result of a great deal of work behind the scenes," she said.

After the light switch-on, the parade will continue through the Arcade onto the High Street, and down the Pollet.

A letterbox will also be set up at the Guille-Allès Library from 20 November so children can post letters to Santa.
