A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after fleeing from police and crashing into two vans in Annesley.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers were called to Derby Road on Monday afternoon after receiving reports of erratic driving and found an Audi driver arguing with someone.

The Audi driver then fled the scene, police added, striking an officer before colliding with two vans. One of the van drivers had to be freed from the wreckage by the fire service.

The force said the Audi driver was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, adding he would be taken into custody once discharged.

The road was closed for nine hours for investigation work but has since reopened.

Witness appeal

Supt Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Our officers attend incidents to keep people safe and should not be subjected to reckless acts such as this.

"I'd like to assure those affected that we are treating this matter extremely seriously.

"Mercifully neither officer or members of public were seriously hurt but their injuries could easily have been more serious.

"Our investigation is continuing and we are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened or has dashcam footage that captures the Audi leading up to this incident."
