Island ready for two-day agricultural spectacular

The scene is set for the Royal Manx Agricultural Show as spectators prepare to enjoy the two-day celebration of the island's farming industry.
The two-day event, held at Knockaloe in Patrick, includes local trade stands as well as stock judging and other entertainment throughout Friday and Saturday.
Show secretary Carol Kennaugh said the event was "very important to continue to educate people about what happens in the agricultural community".
The event is the "biggest agricultural gathering on the island", she said, and while it had been a "really tough year" for farmers due to the weather, the show was a great opportunity for "everyone to get together".
Also featured in the show is a dog agility competition, vintage tractor parades, and sheep sheering displays.
Running since the 1850s, the show attracts about 20,000 visitors each year.
President of the event Suzanne Corlett said the it was "great to bring the community together" and show people what Manx produce is on offer.
Ms Corlett said the show was good for all age groups to see because getting younger people to get into and stay in the farming industry was "becoming more difficult".
She added: "I think people enjoy breeding their own stock and coming to the event to show them. It's a great incentive."
