Council set to decide on 145-home development
- Published
Proposals for a major housing development in East Sussex are set to go in front of council planners next week.
Wealden District Council is set to consider an outline application seeking permission to build up to 145 homes on land to the north of Eastbourne Road in Uckfield on Thursday, 7 November.
When originally submitted, the application by Gladman Developments Ltd had sought permission to build up to 210 homes but concerns were raised about how near it was to ancient woodland.
The scheme is now being recommended for approval by council planning officers after the number of homes was reduced and the site was moved.
The proposals have seen objections from neighbours, who say the homes are not needed and would put significant pressure on local infrastructure.
District planners said developers must include affordable housing and highways works.
They noted Wealden's shortage of housing compared to the national average.
At the moment, developers are only seeking permission for the site's access.
Building layout and design will need further approval.
