A man has been charged after five vehicles were torched in four locations in part of a town.

Suffolk Police was called by the fire service to reports a number of vehicles had been set alight in the Gainsborough area of Ipswich at 22:50 BST on Thursday.

Simon Loveridge, 31, of Frampton Road in Ipswich was charged on Sunday with four counts of arson, including two with intent to endanger life, and appeared at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Two 16-year-olds were also arrested on suspicion of causing arson with intent to endanger life but have since been released under investigation pending further inquiries.

The vehicles involved included two cars at Piper's Vale Academy school on Raeburn Road, one car near the junction of Landseer Road and Clapgate Lane, as well as a transit van on Landseer Road and a minibus parked at Gainsborough Sports Centre.

Mr Loveridge was remanded into custody and will next appear at Ipswich Crown Court on 27 October.
