The driver and passenger in a Volkswagen Polo were injured in a crash on Barnsley Road, police say

An 86-year-old man has been seriously injured in a crash in Barnsley.

A blue Volkswagen Polo collided with a white Volkswagen Crafter van on Barnsley Road, at the junction with Dearne Hall Road in Barugh Green, at about 13:40 GMT on Tuesday, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

The injured man was driving the Volkswagen Polo and his passenger, an 84-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital with injuries. The driver of the van stopped at the scene and was unharmed.

Officers have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to get in touch.
