A volunteering scheme is to get £200,000 from the National Lottery.

The HEY! Volunteering Programme will use the money to expand its operations.

The organisation supports people to work on cultural and arts events across the region.

Its volunteers, dressed in blue uniforms, are a familiar sight at festivals and events in Hull and East Yorkshire.

The money from the Heritage Innovation Fund will be spent over the next two years on recruitment, training and new equipment and resources.

Councillor Rob Pritchard, of Hull City Council, said: "I would like to offer my congratulations to the HEY! Volunteers team on this grant.

"The programme continues to prove incredibly popular and as a volunteer myself, I look forward to seeing how it develops and grows with this additional support."

In August, a group of volunteers visited London on Yorkshire Day to hand out white roses and the Hull delicacy chip spice.

They also gave out white postcards as they attempted to persuade people to visit the region.
