A stretch of the M25 in Surrey has reopened after a lorry hit the central reservation.

The carriageway was closed between junction 10 (A3) and junction eight (Reigate) after the crash shortly before 23:50 GMT on Sunday.

National Highways said the road reopened between junctions nine and 10 just before 10:00, but remained shut between eight and nine until about 17:35.

All four lanes were closed for resurfacing and repairs to take place, with part of the opposite carriageway also shut.

'Diesel spill'

Lanes two, three and four of the anti-clockwise carriageway needed resurfacing due to a diesel spill, while lanes three and four of the clockwise carriageway were also closed to allow the central reservation to be replaced.

Traffic was being diverted onto the A240 and the A217.

National Highways said the lorry had "struck the central reservation and come to rest sideways across the carriageway".

There were no injuries and Surrey Police allowed traffic caught behind the accident to use a single lane to go through.

The lorry has been recovered from the scene.
