Lincolnshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) after a teenage boy was hit by a police car in Lincoln.

The incident happened at the pedestrian crossing on Broadgate, near Silver Street, at 13:45 GMT on 4 November.

Lincolnshire Police said it had "referred the incident to the IOPC, as is usual in these circumstances".

The IOPC said it would assess the matter to determine whether it needed to carry out an investigation.

The force said the marked police car was travelling north in the outside lane and deploying to an urgent incident when it hit the boy.

The 16-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The police officer involved was not seriously injured and did not attend hospital.

Lincolnshire Police appealed for any footage and information related to the incident.
