The official opening of a Hampton by Hilton hotel in Nuneaton has been delayed by just over two weeks.

It is now expected to open its doors on 10 September, after extra finishing touches are carried out for a smooth handover, the borough council said.

Reservations are not being taken before 16 September, so guests will not be affected, the authority added.

The Abbey Street hotel is "the feature of the first phase" of the Grayson Place development project, named after the late entertainer and former Nuneaton resident Larry Grayson.

The 145-room hotel had been expected to hold its official opening on Saturday.

It forms part of the new development, which will include a residential element, alongside workspaces, a cinema complex, a food hall and landscaped public spaces.

The council said the delay had been down to finalising all work around "pre-opening activities".

"[This will ensure] all the finishing touches are in place to enable a smooth handover to Hampton by Hilton," a spokesperson said.

Council leader Chris Watkins. said while it was "unfortunate" the official opening had been rescheduled, "we are still delighted that this superb asset to our town will be opening shortly".
