Bin collections days will change for many homes in Ashfield

Ashfield District Council has advised residents of upcoming changes to the days their bins are collected.

About 60% of households in the district will have their waste collected on different days from Monday 7 October, the authority said.

The council said the change was being brought in ahead of the introduction of weekly food waste collections in 2027.

Deputy council leader and portfolio holder for parks and environmental services, Helen-Ann Smith, said: "By changing our bin collections, we're not only aligning with national recycling reforms but also making our services more efficient and sustainable."

She added: "Residents can expect the same high standard of service, with clearer guidance and better support for recycling. It's all about making it easier for people to do the right thing for the environment."

The council said it was making the changes so it would conform with new government policy to standardise waste and recycling collections across England.

The government said it wanted to reduce confusion about rubbish collections and boost recycling rates.

Residents will be able to find out their new bin dates through a tool on the council website, and updated bin collection calendars will be posted to all homes in the district in the next two weeks.
