A man has been charged with three counts of attempted kidnap following an incident near a school.

Police were called to Vaughton Street South in Birmingham at 15:15 BST on Tuesday after reports of a man assaulting members of the public.

Aron Tesfamriyam, 27, from Stoke-on-Trent, was subsequently charged with attempted kidnap, three counts of assault by beating and one count of affray.

He appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday where he was remanded in custody. Officers have remained in close contact with the school and residents and patrols around the area have continued, West Midlands Police said.

Police said they believed it was an isolated incident but added they understood the concern it had caused.
