Runner breaks car costume record on marathon debut

A runner in a pink car costume has broken the record for the fastest marathon completed while dressed as a road vehicle.

Adrian Bebb, from Burnley, took four hours and 27 minutes to run the London Marathon in his 11lb (5kg) costume on Sunday.

The 39-year-old who was running to raise funds for the Young Lives vs Cancer charity, said he was pleased with his time, which beat the previous record by six minutes.

"It was my first marathon... I’m happy," he said.

He said his run had been "all about raising awareness for the charity".

"Publicising that you’re doing a Guinness World Record, you’re going to raise a bit more interest," he added.

Guinness World Records said a total of 44 records were broken by some of the 65,000 competitors who took part in the event.

Other runners broke the record marathon times for running as a scientist, a tap and video game character Super Mario.

The men's race was won by Kenya's Alexander Mutiso Munyao, while in the women's race, a new world record was set by Kenyan Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir.
