A motorcyclist suffered "life-changing" injuries when his bike struck the central reservation of the M65 motorway.

The crash happened on the eastbound carriageway, between junctions four and five near Blackburn, at 15:25 BST on Sunday.

Lancashire Police said a 59-year-old man, who had been riding a Triumph Tiger 1050 motorbike, was taken to hospital with "serious, life-changing injuries".

The motorway was closed for several hours while the man was treated and the scene examined.

'Online speculation'

Detectives are urging anyone with dashboard camera footage from junctions one to five, filmed between15:15 and 15:25, to come forward.

Sgt Laura Kendall, of Lancashire's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said she was also keen to speak to any other motorcyclists travelling eastbound who may have stopped at the scene.

She added: "We know that this may have caused concern for some of you, and that there has been some speculation online regarding the collision.

"We’d continue to ask you to refrain from speculation on social media but, if you do have any information that could assist our enquiries, please contact us through the appropriate channels.”
