Attempted murder probe after man is injured

Police investigating an incident in which a man was left with serious injuries are treating the case as attempted murder.

Officers were called to Vange Riverview Centre in Basildon, Essex, shortly before 18:00 BST on Saturday.

They found the victim had suffered a serious head injury and he was taken to hospital, where his condition remains critical.

A 41-year-old man from Basildon has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Louise Metcalfe urged anyone in the area at the time of the incident to contact Essex Police.

“I appreciate that this news is concerning to residents, but we believe this to be an isolated incident," she said.
