Drainage work is to be carried out in Shropshire to reduce flooding.

A new highway drainage system will divert water on Stretton Road, Much Wenlock, into the Shylte attenuation basin created by Shropshire Council in 2017.

Work will start from Monday 22 January until mid-April 2024 and a 24-hour road closure will be in place.

“This scheme will – once completed – greatly help to protect people in Much Wenlock from flooding," Dan Morris, from the council, said.

The connection of the highway drainage system to this basin will ensure water flows are reduced and help reduce flooding around Havelock Crescent and High Street during intense rainfall.

Signed diversions will be in place while the road is closed and access will be maintained for all properties within the closure.

Councillor for Much Wenlock, Dan Thomas, said while the closure of the B4371 Stretton Road was not ideal, the long-term benefits would be worth the inconvenience.
