Man, 78, flown to hospital after A716 crash

A 78-year-old man has been taken by air ambulance to hospital after a crash which shut the A716 in south-west Scotland.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle accident near Ardwell, south of Stranraer, at about 13:10 on Tuesday.

The man was flown to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

A 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The road was shut for more than six hours as a result of the crash.

Police said investigations were ongoing and have appealed for witnesses.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man has been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after a separate accident in Peebles on Tuesday evening.

Police were called out to the town's Edinburgh Road at about 19:10 to reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a van.

The road reopened after about an hour and inquiries are continuing.
