Wolverhampton Pride is to return to the city in 2024 featuring Denise Van Outen and Duncan James as headline acts.

This year's event raised over £6,000 for various charities after thousands of people gathered in Old Market Square in June, the city council said.

Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal said officials want to ensure that Wolverhampton Pride becomes a firm fixture in the city's events calendar.

Van Outen will do a DJ set while James, formerly of boyband Blue, will perform several of his tracks at the festival.

The council said it was partnering with Enjoy Wolverhampton, Gorgeous Radio, X2Y LGBT Youth, Wolverhampton LGBT, The White Hart, Gorgeous Nightclub, Wolverhampton Homes and the Arena Theatre to hold the event on Saturday 8 June.

Councillor Gakhal said it was "fantastic" organisers had secured some big names.

"We are establishing Wolverhampton as an event’s city, and a place where people can come and see top quality entertainment without breaking the bank," he added.

Tickets will cost £2 for concessions and £4 for adults, the council said, adding that more details of the line up and parade route will be announced soon.

This year's event was the first time it had been held in the city for four years.
