A person found asleep on a sofa in a smoke-filled flat has been rescued by firefighters.

Crews were called after smoke alarms were heard going off at the flat in Poundbury, Dorset, shortly before midnight.

Seeing smoke inside, crews forced their way into the flat where a pan was found left on the cooker.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said the casualty was treated by ambulance crews for smoke inhalation.
