Leisure centre review to assess funding options
- Published
A review of the operating model of Beau Sejour leisure centre will be carried out by the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture.
The States of Guernsey said the review's aim was to maximise the facility's future financial stability and ensure it offered value for money.
Beau Sejour currently receives a grant via lottery funds, which largely makes up any annual shortfall in funding.
The States said the review would "try to develop a clear understanding of the social and economic value and contribution of the centre to the community to ascertain whether an acceptable community contribution can be maintained with a reduced (or no) subsidy".
'Huge value'
Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, president of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture, said: "Beau Sejour is a hub for our community, cherished by many islanders.
"Since opening in 1976 it has added and continues to add huge value in many areas of island life... We need to collectively decide what role we want Beau Sejour to play for our community, and then decide how to financially ensure it can deliver. "
She added the review would "consider a range of operating models and examine funding options so we can be confident that what we are providing is both delivering what the community needs, at a cost we can afford".
The review is to begin shortly and is likely end by the middle of 2024.
