A man has been arrested after cannabis plants and weapons were discovered by police responding to an armed burglary in Nottinghamshire.

Officers were called to a property in Balmoral Drive, Mansfield following reports a group of men posing as police officers were kicking a front door at about 21:15 GMT on Tuesday.

Nottinghamshire Police said the group fled the scene in a van, which was found abandoned nearby, but a 31-year-old man was found covered in mud shortly after and arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

Two machetes and a set of bolt cutters believed to be linked to the burglary were recovered during a search of the area and about 60 cannabis plants were found at the address.

The force has appealed for information.
