A man has died after an incident on railway tracks between Wareham and Weymouth.

British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were called to the scene near Dorchester shortly after 06:20 BST.

The line was blocked, with trains to and from Bournemouth, Brockenhurst, London Waterloo, Southampton Central and Weymouth cancelled, delayed or revised.

National Rail said the disruption had cleared by 15:00.

BTP said: "Officers were called just after 06:20 to the tracks near Dorchester to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers attended and sadly a man was pronounced dead.

"The incident has been classified as an unexpected death which continues to be investigated by British Transport Police."

Previously South Western Railway said affected passengers could take taxis between Weymouth and Bournemouth and claim refunds through its website.
