Heavy rain warning issued for parts of West Midlands

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, covering parts of the West Midlands.

Heavy rain is forecast from 08:00 BST, external, with the warning in place for parts of Shropshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands conurbation until at least midnight.

The Met Office has warned of a slight chance of power cuts, flooding and difficult driving conditions.

In some areas, downpours have been predicted with as much as 20 mm (0.7in) of rain forecast to fall in less than an hour which could lead to localised flooding.

It has also suggested people prepare for possible power cuts by gathering torches, batteries, and power packs.

Parts of Wales and the south west are also due to be affected with the rain forecast to move north over the course of the day.
