The speed limit in two Rotherham villages is to be cut to 20mph as part of a number of road safety projects.

The new measures will be enforced in the neighbouring villages of Harthill and Woodall, Rotherham Council said.

No objections had been raised against plans for the new speed limits on Woodall Lane, Killamarsh Lane, Walseker Lane and Dowcarr Lane during a year-long consultation period, it added.

A report found that in the previous three years, two crashes which resulted in an injury had been recorded by police in the area of the scheme – one of which led to serious injuries for a horse rider.

Data found the mean speed on Woodall Lane was 33.4mph, and 34.5mph on Killamarsh Lane, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Traffic calming measures will also be applied to the main road through Woodall village, as well as the new 20mph speed limit for the whole village, the council said.

Once the 20mph speed limit was implemented, the council said, the site would be monitored to ensure drivers observed it.

The speed limit will be implemented on Woodall Lane from Walseker Lane heading east for 220m (722 ft), on Killamarsh Lane from Walseker Lane for 94m (308ft) heading west, and along all of Walseker Lane and Dowcarr Lane.
