An emerging DJ from Suffolk has won the opportunity to open a popular festival in Ibiza.

Following a nationwide DJ talent search between Radio 1 Dance and BBC Introducing, Shelly from Ipswich will perform at Radio 1's Dance Weekend.

He will perform on Friday, 2 August at 528 Ibiza while other big names including CamelPhat and Gorgon City are scheduled over the weekend.

Shelly, whose real name is Theo Sheldrake, was speechless the moment he found he had won.

"I'm lost for words, I don't know what to say," he told BBC Radio 1 Dance DJ Jaguar when she shared the news.

He said playing at the event was an honour and something that was on his bucket list to do.

"Mad that this is my first time going to Ibiza, and I’m going out to play," he added.

Shelly explained the support from BBC Introducing Suffolk & Norfolk had been very important to him.

"A lot of artists when they first make tunes, they get a bit nervous about what people are going to think about this," he explained.

"BBC Introducing - specifically the Suffolk and Norfolk show with Angelle [Joseph] - has completely helped me overcome that.

"She's so supportive, the show is so supportive."

He added the show had helped him meet other producers within the county who he is making music with.

Another producer and DJ named Boo from the north east of England was also named alongside Shelly as a competition winner.
