A man who was found dead at an address "might have been pushed over" in a pub beer garden two days earlier, police have said.

Lancashire Police said officers responding to a report of a sudden death found Paul Ainscough at a property on Hollinshead Street, Chorley, at about 16:10 BST on Monday.

It said officers believed the 57-year-old had been involved in an incident at the Stag on Worden Lane in Leyland between 16:30 and 19:30 on the previous Saturday.

Appealing for information, a representative said a 32-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assault had since been bailed.

They said while an arrest had been made, inquiries were "very much ongoing".

They added officers wanted to speak to anyone who was at the pub on 22 June and saw what happened.

"We believe he was involved in an incident in the pub’s beer garden, and he might have been pushed over during it," they said.

"Mr Ainscough was believed to have been wearing a bucket hat at the time.

"If you were in the pub or its beer garden and witnessed the incident, we urge you to get in touch."
