A man has been arrested on suspicion of affray after police said it received reports of "shots being fired" in a town.

Bedfordshire Police said a "firearm" was discharged between the alleyway of Morris Close and Waleys Close, in the Marsh Farm area of Luton, at about 16:10 BST on Monday.

"While incidents involving firearms are rare in our county, we understand that they are concerning for our community," the force said.

"We're working hard to identify those involved and we're appealing for anyone with information to get in touch with us to help us with this investigation."

The police said there were no reports of injuries.
