Children's fun day looks to 'brighter futures'

A day out for families, children and young people, is being held in Jersey on Sunday.
The annual Children's Day family fun day, which is being held at Davis Park from 11:00 to 17:00 BST, was created following the report in 2017 of the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry into the abuse of children in the island's care system.
Children's Day is "dedicated to recognising and celebrating Jersey’s children and young people and advocating for their wellbeing and rights", said organisers the Government of Jersey.
Nearly 60 charities and businesses are taking part with free activities, entertainers, face painters, food and drinks and performances throughout the day.
Cheyenne O’Connor, of the Butterfly Effect, which represents survivors of abuse, said the day was an "opportunity to ensure that lessons learnt from the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry are never forgotten".
"It is not only a day to remember the island’s past but a day to look forward to brighter futures," she said.
"This family fun day is a true example of the community coming together for our children, young people, and families."
Minister for Children and Families, Constable Richard Vibert, said it was a "day to celebrate their achievements, support their aspirations, and ensure their voices are heard".
