A pub landlady has been named as the victim of a shooting outside her own premises.

Bonita Page, 55, was hospitalised with serious leg injuries after the incident at The Red Lion in Wath-upon-Dearne, near Rotherham, on 28 June.

A group of men were seen in the area before the weapon was fired.

The pub has since reopened and welcomed customers back, saying it would return to normal opening hours next week.

'Recovery starts here'

Mrs Page wrote on The Red Lion's Facebook page: "I would like to say a massive thank you to my family and friends and staff for being by my side continuously since the madness on Friday.

"There have been a few people I wouldn’t have been able to get to where I am today without. You know who you are.

"Thank you also for all your kind wishes, cards, flowers and presents. Recovery starts here."

South Yorkshire Police have stepped up patrols in the area after the shooting.

Oliver Corney, 34, of Cricket Inn Road, Sheffield, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life in connection with the incident.

He will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on 2 August.
