A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 20-year-old man was stabbed in Nottingham.
Officers were called to St Peter's Street in Radford after reports of a serious assault shortly before 18:00 BST on Thursday.
A man was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital, where he remained in a stable condition, said the force.
The 16-year-old boy has also been arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife in a public place.
The boy remains in custody.
The force said a suspect ran towards New Road after the victim was attacked on the path next to the River Leen.
The victim was wearing a black jacket with a grey strip, over a green khaki jacket, and was with another man at the time of the attack who helped him, said officers.
Police said a cordon has been set up and is due to remain in place throughout Friday, and they issued a further appeal for anyone who saw what happened to contact them.
Det Ch Insp Claire Gould said: "We want to stress that we believe this to have been an isolated incident and, as a result, don’t believe there to be a wider risk to the public.
“While we’ve arrested a suspect in connection with this incident, our inquiries are still very much ongoing, so it’s important anyone who has any information that could help us gets in touch.
“We'd particularly like to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has any CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist us."
