Joyce Jones will be turning 107 on the 8 July

A care home has launched a public appeal for people to send in cards for a resident's 107th birthday.

Joyce Jones, who was born in Somerset, will celebrate her birthday on 8 July at Kingswood Court Care Home.

The team would like Joyce to have a card for every year of her life and have asked the public to send in as many as possible.

Senior care worker Jade Coghlan said: "Everyone's going all out - her face on that day is going to be absolutely priceless!"

Born in Somerset in 1917, Joyce started working in a glove factory where she met her husband, Stan.

The centenarian then worked as an accountant at Babysham and was one of the first people to use a Comptometer, the first mechanical calculator, the care home said.

Speaking to the BBC, Joyce had a few words for younger generations.

She said: "Never miss a birthday, they don't come round twice!

"I've had my moments - live well and work hard."

General Manager of Kingswood Court care home Mathan Balasubramaniyan said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone.

"Joyce is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more.”

Head Chef at the care home Lee Brimble said: "I will tell you that there’s a six kilogram sponge birthday cake with the fire brigade on standby for 107 candles.

"It is such a landmark occasion and she is just so so sweet.

"She is just the light, the life, the soul – everything. She’s just so wonderful," he added.
