Firefighters have been working through the night to tackle a large house fire in a village.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service sent 12 appliances to a property in Tumbleyhill Road in West Acre, near Swaffham, shortly before midnight on Thursday.

"It was a large fire which has caused significant damage to the house," a spokesperson said.

They advised people to close all windows and doors due to the volume of smoke in the area.

The householder managed to get out of the property before fire crews arrived.

An investigation to determine the cause of the fire would be carried out in due course.
