Bid for 20mph limits across Hastings fails
- Published
A bid to have 20mph speed limits in all residential streets in Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea has failed.
A 1,400-signature petition was presented to East Sussex County Council’s lead member for transport and environment on Wednesday.
Campaigners said it would improve road safety and encourage people out of cars.
The petition was rejected on the advice of council officers, who said it would affect 190 miles (305km) of road, require traffic calming measures and not be compliant with national guidelines.
