A motorcyclist who died following a crash with a police car in Londonderry was Richard Edwards.

The 68-year-old from the Derry area died following the collision close to Maydown police station on Wednesday.

Mr Edwards was taken to hospital but later died.

In a statement, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said the driver of the police vehicle, who they described as a "contracted member of staff", was not injured in the incident.

The PSNI said an investigation is under way to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The Police Ombudsman's office has confirmed to BBC News NI that it will not be launching an investigation into this incident.
