Marks & Spencer said its Queensgate Shopping Centre store would close but two others in Peterborough were unaffected

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has confirmed the closure of a city centre store.

It said the branch in Peterborough's Queensgate Shopping Centre would shut on 20 April.

Regional manager Craig Burton blamed the move on changing shopping habits.

The retailer's other Peterborough stores - at Brotherhood Shopping Park and its food hall at Serpentine Green - are unaffected by the changes.

Mr Burton said: "Shopping habits are changing, so we're rotating our store estate to make sure we have the right stores to offer customers.

"In recent years, we have invested over £31m in our stores in the East of England and we look forward to working with the local council to bring forward plans for further future investment into Peterborough and the wider local area."

The company said it would not yet comment on any jobs affected.

In 2021, John Lewis announced it would be stepping back from Queensgate Shopping Centre after almost 40 years of trading there.

The Frasers Group is set to move into the empty John Lewis unit.
