Man with 266 prior convictions jailed over assault

A man with 266 previous convictions has been jailed for his part in what police described as an "unprovoked attack".

Noel Clarke was arrested after a man was assaulted in St Helen's Street, Ipswich, on 22 September.

The 54-year-old admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for four years and six months at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday.

His co-defendant Ali Todd, 33, of Lower Brook Street in the town, was sentenced to 21 months at a separate hearing in January, after previously admitting causing actual bodily harm.

PC Zoe Taylor, who was in charge of the investigation, said: "We welcome the jail terms handed out to Clarke and Todd for what was a clearly unprovoked attack on a man in an Ipswich street."
