Break-in causes 'significant' damage at school

Burglars have caused a "significant amount of damage" after breaking into a North Yorkshire school, police said.

The thieves are thought to have broken a window to gain access to Brompton Hall School, in Scarborough, between 02:00 and 03:00 GMT on Monday.

A petrol go-cart was taken from the property during the raid, North Yorkshire Police said.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The specialist school provides education for children aged between seven and 16 with "social, emotional and mental health difficulties", according to its website.

An online notice posted on the its website on Monday said the school was closed due to "unforeseen circumstances".
