The snooker club will be for members only, its director said

A former gym in Coventry is to become a snooker club after the owners were granted a licence to serve alcohol and late night food and play music.

The Cue Club will open at Kenpas Hall in Finham.

Local residents were divided over plans for the licence, according to council papers, with concerns expressed about noise and anti-social behaviour.

The club was “certainly not a drinking venue” and would be for members only, its director said.

Nine neighbours raised objections, which were related to the later opening hours and alcohol licence, and five expressed support for the club, saying it would bring benefits.

Several people involved in cue sports in the city also welcomed the plans.

The club would have high standard tables and league and competition events, Director Holly Fletcher said.

She added that cue sports were quiet and there would be measures to reduce noise inside, as well signs outside reminding people to keep noise down.

Any anti-social behaviour would cause people to lose their membership, and neighbours would be given contact details to report any incidents, she said.

Councillors agreed to grant the licence with a condition that people could not go into the club after 23:00 on weekdays and 00:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
