Two masked off-road bike riders trespassed on secondary school grounds during teaching hours, police said.
The male intruders reportedly entered the grounds of The Mirfield Free Grammar at about 13:15 BST on Thursday.
Parents shared in a local Facebook group that they had received a text from the school stating it had gone into lockdown.
The Mirfield Free Grammar has been contacted for comment.
West Yorkshire Police said no damage was caused to the school grounds and no other offences were disclosed.
The trespassers are thought to have dispersed after being spotted outside the front of the school.
Ch Insp Rebecca Calpin said: “Antisocial and illegal riding is not tolerated in our communities and we regularly prosecute and seize bikes from persons seen behaving in this way.
“Calls are followed up with efforts made to identify suspects via submitted footage, eyewitness reports and checks with local garages."
The force said it was conducting enquiries into the incident at the school.
