Two people have been arrested after a police officer was deliberately hit by a car, Wiltshire Police said.

On Saturday, a police officer approached the occupants of a white Dacia Jogger Expression parked in a field in Conscience Lane, near Devizes.

The vehicle struck the officer, who required hospital treatment for his injuries.

A 20-year-old man from Trowbridge was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with Intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. A 22-year-old woman from Bristol has also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

The officer has since been discharged from hospital and was continuing to recover at home, police said.

Det Insp Steve Edwards said: “This was a serious incident in which a police officer was injured during the course of his duties.

"Our investigation is continuing at pace, resulting in two further arrests and the location of a vehicle which is thought to have been involved.

"I would like to thank the public for their invaluable support in relation to our appeals for information.”

The vehicle believed to have been used to strike the officer has been seized by police.

A man in his 30s from Twerton, near Bath, who was previously arrested in connection with the case, has since been released without charge.
