Girl, 12, critically ill after being hit by car

A 12-year-old girl is critically ill in hospital after being hit by a car in North Ayrshire.

She was struck by a blue Nissan Note on the A78 between Seamill and Saltcoats at about 15:50 on Monday,

The schoolgirl was airlifted to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Glasgow where staff described her condition as “critical”.

The road has been closed while an investigation takes place.

Police Scotland said initial inquiries were under way.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans urged any drivers who may have captured the incident on a dashcam to check their footage and contact officers.
