Man caught riding pregnant Jersey cow apologises

A person caught riding a pregnant Jersey cow has apologised after a social media appeal.

Master Farms, in Grouville, Jersey, posted a CCTV picture on Facebook at the weekend of a man who climbed on to the back of one of its heifers.

Farmer Phil Le Maistre said the person involved had contacted him to apologise.

He said they had agreed to pay the bill for the vet who examined the cow - finding the mother and baby were both fine.

Writing on the farm's social media, he said: "Thanks to everyone who has shared our post and also asked how the heifer, May, is doing.

"The vet’s been out today to check her over and she’s all fine along with her baby which is a big relief and the news we were hoping to hear."

Mr Le Maistre said the community spirit on the island following what happened to May was "amazing to see".

He said: "We have found the person responsible who has been in contact with us and the police.

"They have apologised and regret their actions.

"They will be paying for the vet bill and also we have asked them to make a donation to a local animal charity."
