A secondary school has announced it will be changing its name from the start of the next academic year.

Telford Priory School at Wrockwardine Wood, Telford, will be known as New Road Academy from September.

The Learning Community Trust (LCT), which runs the school, said the name was chosen by students after a consultation process involving staff and parents.

Principal Andrea Bell said she was “privileged” to lead the school and said she would strive to make it the best in Telford.

“Ambition drives us to excel and achieve greatness, pushing boundaries and reaching new heights. Our students will be inspired to dream big, and work hard to turn those dreams into reality,” she said.

The LCT said the changes would also include a new uniform and the introduction of a “bespoke curriculum” as well as the creation of dedicated study areas.

Measures will be put in place to help families with uniform costs while the school said it was also aiming to develop closer links with Telford businesses.
