Minicab driver accused of multiple sexual offences

A self-employed minicab driver has appeared in court charged with multiple sexual offences.

Alexandru Tapurin, 35, of Tizzick Close in Norwich, is accused of three counts of sexual assault relating to incidents at a number of locations across the city over the weekend.

He was also charged with false imprisonment and causing a female aged 16 or over to engage in a non-penetrative sexual activity.

Tapurin appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and was remanded into custody ahead of a plea hearing at Norwich Crown Court on 20 February.

A spokesperson for ABC Taxis said it was "actively co-operating with the ongoing police investigation".

"The company can confirm that it acted swiftly when it became aware of these allegations," a statement said.

"The self-employed driver-partner, who has the freedom to take bookings from multiple ride-booking platforms available in Norwich, was removed from the booking system and reported to the local authority.

"Safety remains the number one priority of the company."

ABC Taxis claims to be Norfolk's largest taxi service.

It says every ride on its system is tracked door-to-door.

"All driver-partners undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, underscoring the paramount importance placed on the safety of passengers," its statement added.

"Due to these legal proceedings, the company is unable to provide additional comments at this time."
