Plans unveiled for 11-storey student accommodation

Plans for new student accommodation in Glasgow's Trongate area are due to be considered by councillors.
If permitted, the 11 storey, 288 bed building will be constructed on Osborne Street and Old Wynd.
The site, which sits in the Glasgow central conservation area, has been used as a temporary car park and pop-up venue space.
Officials of Glasgow City Council have backed Nova Osborne's plans but Merchant City and Trongate Community Council have objected.
''The façade is more like an industrial production unit than a residential neighbourhood and lacking human scale, attraction or liveable interest,” said the community council.
Pushing for approval, council planning officials said: “The proposed development complies with the relevant policies of the development plan.''
The applicant's design statement said: “Osborne Street will be redeveloped to provide new best in class purpose-built student accommodation of which there is a shortage of in the Glasgow market.''
Members of Glasgow City Council's planning application committee is expected to decide on the proposal on Tuesday.
