One hundred dashcams are to be fitted in HGVs and coaches to catch reckless driving in Lincolnshire.

Footage showing driving offences will be uploaded to Lincolnshire Police website and may be used by the force to take action.

The aim is to cut the number of people killed or seriously injured on the county’s roads.

It is part of a £45,000 project called Operation Journey.

The dashcams will be given to haulage and coach companies that drive on the high-risk routes.

The funding, which has come from the government via Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones, will also help pay for additional staffing for the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership to review the footage.

Previously, Lincolnshire Police has used unmarked HGVs to spot driving offences.

'Change driver behaviour'

Mr Jones said: "This project is about trying to change dangerous driver behaviour and save lives, not wrack up fines."

If successful the scheme could be extended to other road users and members of the public.
