Police believe a man found dead in Inverclyde was the victim of a "targeted attack".

The 27-year-old was pronounced dead after emergency services were called to Port Glasgow's Brookfield Road shortly after 21:00 on Saturday.

Police Scotland said the death was currently being treated as "suspicious" but that an extensive investigation was under way.

Forensics officers were seen entering a building in the area on Sunday afternoon.

Det Ch Insp Ally Semple of the major investigation team said: “At this time, we believe that the attack on the man was targeted.

“Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the area, checking CCTV and speaking to local residents but we’d still like to hear from anyone with information who has not yet come forward.

“We’d be keen to view any doorbell/private CCTV or dashcam footage from the area and between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on Saturday, just in case footage has been caught that would identify any suspects."

An increased police presence will be in the area as part of the force’s inquiries.
